Well we just had a shock, we opened up our account that usually has over 13,000 followers and this is what it looks like!

Worried we were singled out we also checked other accounts, like Tweetdeck.

Seems like a Twitter-Wide problem

Hi Everyone,

Remember, for months we’ve been yelling “Oauth is coming, Oauth is coming” like some crazy people with tin foil hats claiming the end of the world

But now, it’s proving to be true! Twitter is laying the proverbial “smack” down on all tools that go OAUTH (which they are required to do before the 1st of June) which don’t follow Twitter’s Terms of Service.

So it begins.  Remember, Marketmetweet is 100% twitter compliant AND OAUTH secure.

To review, What does OAUTH mean?

OAuth is an authentication protocol that allows users to approve application to act on their behalf without sharing their password. More information can be found at oauth.net or in the excellent Beginner’s Guide to OAuth from Hueniverse.

How Do I know if the Tool I bought uses OAuth?

Tools which don’t use Oauth require you to input your Twitter username and password directly into the tool, which they then store (doesn’t sound very secure does it? Giving away your private details to someone else) – Tools which use Oauth, require you to ’sign in with twitter’ which opens up a secure connection to twitter. OAuth secure web tools allow you to sign in and connect the tool. Desktop applications require you to sign in a obtain a pin, which you enter into the tool, so you never give away your password.

Bear in mind if your tool is web based you will not need to obtain the pin, it will just ask you to ‘connect.’

Things are progressing very nicely with Version 2, including the inclusion of something that wasn’t mentioned in our original post which I’ll blog about soon! (very exciting!)

We’re gearing up to launch Version 2 of MarketMeTweet in mid June. We’ve written a lot about OAUTH and how the Twitter Landscape will be changing (our most recent article is here), and we’re starting to see it… tools folding, or drastically changing.

Do you have, or know of, any tools that are not able to get themselves OAUTH compliant?

If so, we want to talk to you! We have a lot of ideas for how to make MarketMeTweet a win/win…

Firstly a big thank you to everyone who has been supporting us since the beginning! It’s been amazing for sure.

Secondly, a big thank you to the team who are un-relentless in their efforts.

So of course we’ve been hard at work, but the big secret we’ve been keeping from you is Market Me Tweet Version 2.0!

Lets take a look at some of the new features:

Interface

We’re overhauling the entire interface from scratch, rebuilding it from the ground up with all the feedback we’ve had from you guys. Here are just a few of the things that will be in the new interface.

• -Resizable interface much like other rival management tools like TweetDeck (but better), much more intuitive and easy to use.
• -Tab Based Layout. No Longer do you have to stare at 1 thing whilst your doing the other. Tabs will be divided up into Marketing, Twitter, Facebook & Settings (yup we mentioned facebook too – we’ll come to that)
• -Tweeting from multiple Accounts at the SAME TIME.
• -We’re moving scheduled tweets into a much more intuitive position, layout and control (its awesome).
• -Custom Search Panels
• -Faster, and smoother
• -Arrangeable Panes – organize whats important to you.

Features

So a new version wouldn’t be complete without new shiny features to show off

• -Custom location targeting, so basically you enter a town, place, city, county, country (much more targeted than before)
• -Email alerts, you’ll be able to get email alerts for all sorts of things, searches, @replies etc.
• -Facebook, yup we’re bringing in your news feeds, your feeds, posting to facebook and even posting to fan pages too
• -Google URL builder, building google URL’s to track inside Google Analytics!!
• -More URL shorteners, going to give you TINY URL, OWLY and more.
• -Custom Reply templates for reply campaigns (enhanced a lot).
• -Enhance following and unfollowing to make it so much easier.
• -Searching twitter bio’s for matches (very cool)
• -Plus much much more we can’t reveal yet!

So the release for version 2.0 is set for the first week of June, so not far off, and thanks so much for all your feedback. In the mean time we’ll still be updating Version 1 x.

Cost

Version 2.0 will be free for all existing users as are all future updates

However the price for new users will be going up, so it’ll be an idea to get a hold of it at Version 1 price now!
